- Country singer/former American Idol contestant Kelly Pickler shaved her head this week as a show of support for her best friend, who began chemo for breast cancer. ABC has some video (including some evidence that Mattel is wrong about that whole "Barbie can't be bald and beautiful" thing).
- An 8 year old boy in Illinois won $1000 in a scavenger hunt, and immediately donated it to the family of a two-year old girl who will use the money for her chemo treatments for leukemia. Pretty amazing.
- Tig Notaro, the comedian who came out so honestly about her breast cancer, had surgery this week and is reportedly doing well. No official word about anything, but there's a nice interview available (conducted before the surgery). Tissues recommended.
8:00pm, on many, many TV stations. Entertainment includes Coldplay, Alicia Keys, Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift (who will debut a new song), Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Samuel L. Jackson (who will probably also tweet about it using his fascinating variant spellings of the F word), and Olympic gold medalists Gabrielle Douglas and Missy Franklin.
Donations go to fund collaborative research on cancer. So instead of having one person who has studied, say, Follicular NHL all her life, the money will fund projects that bring together experts with a variety of backgrounds and perspectives to look at the problem in new ways. (Not that I'm against the single-focus approach, but I also know that sometimes breaking out of a mould yields some interesting new solutions.)
Enjoy the entertainment, and give a little if you can.

Tig Notaro wouldn't know honesty if it bit her. She better get a restraining order on karma cause it is really stalking her.
